Flight Line Festival

Brandon's shisa is ready for liftoff!

Brandon's shisa is ready for liftoff!

Military show-and-tell planes and equipment?  Check!  Games, festival food, performances, kiddie rides?  Check!  Fireworks in the evening?  Check!  The local Marine base's Flight Line Festival had it all, folks!

Brandon and I headed down Rt 58 to Futemna for their festival Saturday night.  Rest assured, we waited til evening to brave the heat and humidity.  It was still humid, but it was bearable by dinner time.  (We're both r-e-a-l-l-y looking forward to fall, winter, and spring again, just in case I haven't mentioned that lately.)  We had a lot of fun wandering around the festival, which serves as a big military PR event here with the locals, checking out some of the planes, a kiddie train, and well, as far as automobiles, there were several military jeep-type vehicles scattered about.

Grill Sergeant

Delicious!

Delicious!

Brandon broke out his new grill for a test run last night, grilling us up some tasty cheeseburgers, complete with Jack Daniel's BBQ Sauce!  Yummy!  We bought him the Fiesta gas grill during the base's Father's Day sale and Gimli helped him put it together.  Errr, at least Gimli tried to help him put it together.  Brandon just didn't think having Gim walk all through the packaging and pieces and try to pick up parts to taste them was very helpful.  Huh!  Check out the assembly process in the Gallery.

Aria Asia! ...Electric Violin! ...Yes, an Electric Violin!

Last Saturday evening we went for another round at Yogurt Land....come to think of it, it has already been a week since we were there last… about time to go again!...  Anyway, we saw a group just starting their performance down below. Since we were in no hurry, we decided to stay around and see what they sounded like.  Come to find out their lead person plays an electric violin!  Not only that, but she is very good at it!  I took a number of photos and a couple of videos. If anyone wants, I might be persuaded to upload the videos to youtube and share the links out.

Beach time!

The lookout

The lookout

Megumi and I had a wonderful lunch at Ocean Pizza, near Cape Zampa.  The buffet was delicious and we had a beautiful view of the Sea.  I am really loving the fresh fruit salad full of mango, pineapple, papaya, and coconut squares.  (The coconut squares are semi-translucent, but slightly harder than jello...I've never seen coconut flesh like it, but it's very popular on Okinawa.  I really like it.)  Yummy!

The new Bertie Bus?

Bertie Bus, move over! Here comes Hello Kitty Bus!

Bertie Bus, move over! Here comes Hello Kitty Bus!

Brandon and I looked out the window the other day to find this photo-worthy, "only in Japan" bus parked in the lot across the street.  I HAD to get a photo!

All you "Thomas the Tank Engine" fans beware!  Hello Kitty Bus may be in direct competition with Bertie Bus now.  Hey, a Hello Kitty Bus would make me want to go to school, wouldn't you agree?!
